Citatum
Privacy policy
The short version: Citatum shows ads, and everything else stays on your device. There are no accounts, no servers of ours and no analytics of ours — your quotes, likes, history and settings never leave your phone. The ads are served by Google AdMob, and the advertising SDK does collect and share some data. That part is spelled out below rather than buried.
Data stored on your device
Citatum keeps your settings (language, appearance, reminder schedule, topics), your liked quotes, your recently seen history and your streak in the app's local storage on your device only. On iOS and Android a small daily-quote payload is also stored in the app's shared container so the home-screen widget can display it. None of this is ever sent to us or to anyone else, and we (the developer) cannot access it. If you back up your phone with the platform's own backup service (e.g. iCloud device backup), that backup may include Citatum's local data like any other app's; it belongs to you and is never accessible to us. On Android, Citatum opts out of system backups entirely.
Data we collect
We collect nothing. Citatum has no server and no account system, and we never receive your likes, your history, your settings or anything else you do in the app. The single exception to "nothing leaves your device" is advertising, which is handled entirely by Google and described in the next section.
Advertising
Citatum shows occasional full-screen ads between quotes, served by Google AdMob. To do that, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares:
- your device's IP address, used to estimate its approximate location;
- your interactions with the ads;
- diagnostic information about the performance of the app and of the SDK;
- the Android advertising ID and the App Set ID, used for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention.
This data goes to Google, not to us — we only ever see aggregate earnings figures, never anything about an individual person or device. Google's handling of it is governed by its own privacy policy and by how Google uses data from apps that use its services.
Your consent. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked before any personalised advertising happens, through Google's consent form shown the first time you open the app. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time from Settings → Privacy options. If you decline, Citatum shows no ads at all — it does not fall back to tracking you anyway.
Limiting ads elsewhere. On any device you can reset or delete your advertising ID from the system settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
Permissions the app may request
Network access — used only to fetch ads and the consent form; the quotes themselves are bundled inside the app and work with no connection at all. Notifications — only if you enable quote reminders; scheduling happens entirely on the device. Exact alarms (Android) — optional, so reminders arrive at the exact time you chose; without it the app falls back to inexact delivery. Add to photo library (iOS) / media access (older Android) — only when you choose to save a quote card as an image.
Sharing
When you share a quote or a quote card, the system share sheet hands exactly the text or image you chose to the app you pick. Nothing else is attached, and Citatum does not see where it goes.
Outbound links
Tapping an ad opens the advertiser's page in your browser or in your app store, where that advertiser's own privacy policy applies. Citatum does not see where you end up.
Deleting your data
You can clear likes and history inside the app at any time. Uninstalling Citatum permanently deletes all of its local data. Because we store nothing off-device, there is nothing for us to delete on any server. For the advertising data held by Google, reset your advertising ID as described above, or use Google's own privacy controls.
Children
Citatum is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children, and because it shows advertising it should not be used by children under that age.
